The Guestbook ebook
If you're looking for a book with charm and a great atmosphere, I would definitely recommend The Guestbook. Everything from the island to the inn to the town and its people and food is lovingly rendered to really draw you in.
The story follows Lily, who has just left her cheating and controlling husband, as she tries to find herself on Madrona Island, where she has inherited a Bed and Breakfast from her grandmother. The cast of characters she meets there really draws her out of her shell, not to mention the tall, dark, and sensitive artist who lives next door (he's a much better deal than her last husband.) It's interesting to watch Lily's growth from an emotionally abusive relationship to becoming a strong, independent person in her own right. I think a lot of women can relate to Lily's struggles, from having to support herself, both financially and emotionally, to struggling with balancing a budding romantic relationship with her sense of individuality and strength, especially following a messy break up.
The characters are entertaining, the setting is engrossing, and the descriptions of food will leave you hungry for more.
