Takes some experimentation but worth it.

Woods 59744 Switch Converts Programmable

Woods 59744 Switch Converts Programmable

This has been the best timer for our outdoor lights! Over the years we have used timers for our indoor and outdoor light powered by remote electronic boxes with mixed results. Often the lights would not come on, not turn off or would come on at times not programed. We finally stopped using the device and reverted to manually turning the outdoor lights on and off. I was looking for something new on Amazon when I came upon this type of device. I chose this one after reviewing the product descriptions and reviews.

It states it is for indoor use only, however our outdoor light switch is in an insulated garage and it works fine. It has been installed and working for about 2 weeks now. We have it connected to a switch plate which has 3 toggle switches. We needed it for only one switch. You would not be able to use this device for more than 2 switches on a triple. One of the comments stated it was noisy - yes it makes a noise when it flips the switch, but otherwise, no sound! Looking for a simple switch to turn lights on and off once or twice in a 24 hour period, this seems to be the answer.

  1. Here is some helpful info: Buy AA Batteries and put them in. No matter how you program it the "+" button is how you can turn your lights on/off. Push once for "auto", then another to flip the switch.

To reset clock/programs, put paper clip or something small into the hole between the "R" and the "+"

To Set Current Time on Clock:
1)Hold Down "SET" button until display starts to blink(about 5 seconds)
2)while blinking if you wait 20 seconds or push "PROG" it will exit and save the time you have set
3)while blinking push the "+" button to add hours and "-" to take away, push "SET" once more to edit minutes.
4)After setting the clock, hit "PROG" or wait 20 seconds it will exit time change mode

    To Program On/Off: (2 settings, 1-on/1-off, 2-on/2-off)
1)Hit "PROG", 1 and ON will start blinking
2)Hit "SET" to edit when your switch will come ON, + and - buttons change hours. hit "SET" again to edit minutes, hit "SET" again to save.
3)While 1 and ON are blinking hit "+" to change to 1-off, or 2-on, or 2-off
4)At each you can hit the "SET" button to change times for that program

So far for three days has worked perfectly. Kept time and flipped switch exactly as programmed. I wanted a timer for my porch light and didn't want to deal with CFL/Incan/LED compatibility. This thing works perfectly as long as you have a regular toggle switch.

This model only allows you to program 2 on/off settings that repeat every day. If you need more than that, you should get an in-wall 7-Day Digital Timer. My situation is temporarily, and i liked this temporary solution.

  2. The unit is easy to install, and also to uninstall, in case you only want to use it while away on vacation. I found that it works reliably. The best part is that you do not need to handle any wires behind the wall plate, so it is a safe unit to handle.

  5. Very easy to install. Programming is pretty straightforward once you have read the instructions. (As a general rule, I normally read instructions at least twice and use a highlighter to mark critical points). Works extremely well. The over-ride function is very useful especially for those strange weather changes when you may want to switch on the lights earlier than programmed.

  6. The product works as advertised. It is easy to install and remove, especially as compared with devices that require wiring changes.

  7. Bought the Woods 59744 Flip Switch Timer to operate my front exterior light. It works great. The instructions that come with the unit aren't really clear. Had to do some experimentation to get the light to turn on and off when I wanted. But, once set, it just keeps on working.

  8. This timer is easy to program and takes care of my outside lights. I no longer need to worry about a dark house when I'm getting home late.
